We were bursting at the seams for the 2019 Twelfth Night Quiz – 53 people in eight teams, which I’m pretty sure is a record!
Newton Senior was sadly absent with the lergy but Newton Junior more than made up for this, notable achievements being a working knowledge of Pericles coupled with the ability to fire prosecco corks down the entire length of the hall.
Pam wrangled the mulled wine with ease and Roger’s help, while Sandie’s excellent Twelfth Night Cake was enjoyed by all. The lucky Lord and Lady of Misrule this year were Helena and Iain, who delighted us with an original sketch featuring a butcher loaning meat to his bemused customer. It was of course Ham – let! Well done Ray C who was very quick off the mark in guessing that one.
Despite their self-effacing name Free at Last, no, Friett Last surely, the Friett-Turnbull team came first. Which usually happens with any team John is in. Or Paul. They pretty much had the Shakespeare and music questions in the bag from the start, and maintained their strong lead throughout. Twin Peaks (Shari 31 weeks, Jen 34 weeks) were a valiant second, despite a brilliant ten on the Joker round, and Kate’s team scored a brilliant victory in the Table Quiz.
Our thanks to all friends and visitors for making such a successful evening. And of course Question Maestro Colin for creating another challenging and enjoyable set of questions, despite much bewilderment over that first set of quotations!
