About Us

Sevenoaks Shakespeare Society

The Society was founded in 1997 to promote and enjoy the work of Shakespeare and his contemporaries, giving members the chance to get involved both on and off the stage.

We mount a full-scale open-air Shakespeare production once a year, most recently as part of the Sevenoaks Summer Festival, and arrange a variety of activities during the year, such as workshops and theatre visits, as well as social events. Here is a flavour of our year:

  • JANUARY We welcome the New Year with our infamous Twelfth Night Quiz. Rehearsals commence for our one-act entry into the Sevenoaks Drama Festival
  • FEBRUARY Rehearsals continue
  • MARCH We perform at the Sevenoaks Drama Festival
  • APRIL Rehearsals commence for our summer Shakespeare production
  • MAY Rehearsals continue
  • JUNE First performances of our summer Shakespeare production
  • JULY Further performances of the show which then goes on to St Briavels Castle in Gloucestershire.
  • AUGUST A quiet month!
  • SEPTEMBER Our AGM and barbecue
  • OCTOBER Auditions for next year’s productions
  • NOVEMBER Planning starts in earnest
  • DECEMBER Ad-hic celebration

The committee meets throughout the year, and there are numerous production planning meetings.

Members propose a variety of ad hoc social activities such as theatre trips and visits to Live Screening events, etc.

Yes, the yanks can do it too......
