SSS Newsletter: Spring 18

Spring is sprung

And our summer show can be compared to a summer's day, more lovely......if less temperate!

As I write on this auspicious day of Shakespeare’s birth, our rehearsals for The Tempest have just got under way, with our first gathering yesterday evening.  We are delighted to welcome some new faces in the form of Lucy Smith, Iain Drennan, Shari Newton and Christopher Franks, alongside a great line up of returners and regulars.

May we cordially remind you all to renew/take out your membership, which you can do easily online.

21st Anniversary Dinner

Saturday 27 October

Stanhope Arms Brasted

Our Shakespeare Soc was born, so writes this quill,
When divers souls the Readathon did’st dare
And, sharing deep affection for our Will,
To local Indian restaurant did repair

“These few hours of the Bard were not enough –
We must not let him languish on the page!
Let’s dramatise him, though it may be tough,
And place unperfect actors on the stage.”

Now years gone past doth number twenty one.
We’ve sundry works perform’d, from Lear to Shrew,
Indoors and out, in wind and rain and sun,
And made ourselves a motley to the view.

So for our Soc we must needs make good cheer.
Come join with us, for fun, food, wine – and beer!

And further dates.......

A Midsummer Night's Dream - our 2019 production

Never ones to sit on their laurels, your gallant committee are already thinking about NEXT year, and we have decided to present A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

These details are hot off the press. We know that there will be auditions in September, and that Phil Newton will be in the Director’s Chair for this one.

…….and the Beat Goes On!

We are delighted to announce that the Society’s chamber choir Bard With A Beat has been invited by the National Trust to give a concert in the beautiful setting of the Great Hall at Ightham Mote near Sevenoaks 10th November. Tickets will include a meal in the restaurant after the performance of settings of Shakespeare songs and sonnets. Roll up for such classics as Fear No More, and Brush Up Your Shakespeare!

WE NEED YOUR HELP as usual.  The summer event is always most demanding of the production team and we need more people to assist in all sorts of ways

We need production assistance to help Julian with specific areas of responsibility…during the get-in, the get-out, and with Front of House, and site management on the day (that’s car park duty to you & me).

Please drop us a line if you are able to help in any way.

Hey You, Join my Crew!
